چکیده
Marine biofouling is a well-known massive problem: within the shortest time, ship hulls and other man-made submerged surfaces are inevitably populated by various marine organisms. causes severe economic environmental problems. Thus, effective control on of utmost importance. Since middle 20th century, scientists engineers have developed antifouling coatings mainly based continuous release toxic metal ions accompanying booster biocides to repel or kill organisms approaching surface. However, these caused serious harm non-target ocean. Therefore, development environmentally friendly alternative an urgent need, research in this field growing rapidly. This review includes concise basic theory from biology, chemistry, physics. It provides introduction into formation, as well physicochemical surface properties that can be manipulated achieve control. Furthermore, complete overview currently presented summarized. wettability, self-renewable coatings, containing agents, switchable biomimetic coatings.

Biofouling protection for marine environmental sensors
These days, many marine autonomous environment monitoring networks are set up in the world. These systems take advantage of existing superstructures such as offshore platforms, lightships, piers, breakwaters or are placed on specially designed buoys or underwater oceanographic structures. These systems commonly use various sensors to measure parameters such as dissolved oxygen, turbidity, condu...
متن کاملControl of Biofouling In Marine Environment – Past, Present And Future
Biofouling is a worldwide phenomenon plaguing mariners and accounting for economic burden on shipping, aquaculture and various other maritime industries. The fouling organisms cause extensive damage to commercially important marine structures causing increased drag of marine surface and submarine vessels incurring increased fuel penalties. . Antifouling is the phenomenon of preventing biofoulin...

The resistance of charged polymers to biofouling was investigated by subjecting cationic (PDMAEMA), anionic (PSPMA), neutral (PHEMA-co-PEG10MA), and zwitterionic (PSBMA) brushes to assays testing protein adsorption; attachment of the marine bacterium Cobetia marina; settlement and adhesion strength of zoospores of the green alga Ulva linza; settlement of barnacle (Balanus amphitrite and B. impr...
متن کاملMarine biofouling: a sticky problem.
Organisms that colonise underwater surfaces, such as barnacle larvae and spores of algae, use a diverse array of biological 'glues' to provide both temporary and more permanent adhesion. The practical consequence of colonisation by these organisms is biofouling - something that has plagued mariners for years - causing increased drag and, in extreme cases, corrosion. Might there be a biological ...
متن کاملBiofouling of polymer hydrogel materials and its effect on diffusion and enzyme-based luminescent glucose sensor functional characteristics.
BACKGROUND Continuous glucose monitoring is crucial to developing a successful artificial pancreas. However, biofouling and host response make in vivo sensor performance difficult to predict. We investigated changes in glucose diffusivity and sensor response of optical enzymatic glucose sensors due to biological exposure. METHOD Three hydrogel materials, poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHE...
